Italian Pasta Recipe for 4 People

Ingredients:

  • 400g (14 oz) dried pasta (spaghetti, penne, or your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 400g (14 oz) canned chopped tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Cook Pasta:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
    • Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving some pasta water.
  2. Prepare Sauce:
    • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add minced garlic and chopped onion. Cook until softened and fragrant.
  3. Add Tomatoes and Herbs:
    • Stir in the canned chopped tomatoes, dried oregano, and dried basil.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Combine Pasta and Sauce:
    • Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the tomato sauce.
    • Toss the pasta in the sauce until well coated. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of reserved pasta water to loosen it up.
  5. Serve:
    • Divide the pasta among serving plates.
    • Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
    • Serve hot and enjoy!

Optional:

  • Feel free to add cooked protein such as grilled chicken, shrimp, or sausage to make it a heartier meal.
  • Add some red pepper flakes for a spicy kick if desired.
