Syrian Fattoush Recipe for 4 People

Ingredients:

  • 2 large tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cucumber, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped
  • 2-3 pieces of pita bread, toasted and broken into pieces
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon sumac
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Vegetables:
    • In a large bowl, combine diced tomatoes, cucumbers, red and green bell peppers, sliced red onion, chopped parsley, and chopped mint leaves.
  2. Prepare the Dressing:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, sumac, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Assemble the Salad:
    • Add the toasted pita bread pieces to the bowl of vegetables.
    • Pour the dressing over the salad ingredients.
  4. Toss and Serve:
    • Gently toss all the ingredients together until the salad is evenly coated with the dressing.
  5. Chill and Serve:
    • Cover the bowl and refrigerate the fattoush for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  6. Garnish and Serve:
    • Before serving, garnish the fattoush with extra mint leaves and a sprinkle of sumac for color and flavor.

Optional:

  • You can add radishes, green onions, or other fresh herbs like cilantro or basil to the salad for additional taste and texture.
