Turkish Balik Ekmek Recipe for 4 People

Ingredients:

  • 4 fillets of white fish (sea bass or sea bream)
  • 4 baguettes or Turkish bread (Ekmek)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon sumac (optional)
  • Fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, red onions)
  • Fresh herbs (parsley or dill) for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish:
    • In a shallow dish, mix flour, salt, and black pepper.
    • Coat each fish fillet in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  2. Fry the Fish:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
    • Fry the fish fillets until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  3. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, yogurt, lemon juice, and sumac (if using). This will be your sauce for the balik ekmek.
  4. Assemble the Balik Ekmek:
    • Cut the baguettes or Turkish bread in half.
    • Spread the sauce on the bread.
    • Place a fried fish fillet on each bread half.
  5. Add Fresh Vegetables:
    • Top the fish with fresh lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and red onions.
  6. Garnish:
    • Sprinkle fresh herbs, such as parsley or dill, on top for added flavor.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve the balik ekmek immediately while the bread is still warm.
