Chili Con Carne

 

Chili Con Carne Recipe for 4 People

Ingredients:

  • 500g (1.1 lbs) ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (400g/14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (400g/14 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped fresh cilantro, sliced jalapeños

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
    • Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until softened.
    • Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  2. Add Vegetables:
    • Stir in diced bell pepper and cook for a few minutes until softened.
  3. Seasonings and Tomatoes:
    • Add tomato paste, chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
    • Pour in diced tomatoes (with their juices) and beef broth. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Simmer:
    • Reduce heat to low and let the chili simmer, uncovered, for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the chili becomes too thick, add more beef broth or water as needed.
  5. Add Beans:
    • Stir in drained and rinsed kidney beans. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes to heat through.
  6. Serve:
    • Ladle the chili into bowls and serve hot.
    • Top with shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, chopped fresh cilantro, and sliced jalapeños if desired.

Optional:

  • Serve the chili with cornbread, rice, or tortilla chips for a complete meal.
