Lebanese Falafel Recipe for 4 People
Ingredients:
- 1 cup dried chickpeas
- 1/2 large onion, roughly chopped
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil for frying
For Serving:
- Pita bread or flatbread
- Hummus
- Tahini sauce
- Chopped tomatoes
- Sliced cucumbers
- Shredded lettuce
- Pickles
- Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish
Instructions:
- Prepare the Chickpeas:
- Place dried chickpeas in a large bowl and cover with water. Let soak overnight. Drain well before using.
- Blend Ingredients:
- In a food processor, combine soaked chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, salt, and baking powder.
- Pulse until the mixture is finely ground but not pureed.
- Form Falafel Patties:
- Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in flour until the mixture holds together.
- Shape the mixture into small patties, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
- Fry the Falafel:
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 180°C (350°F).
- Carefully place the falafel patties into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve:
- Serve the falafel hot with pita bread or flatbread, hummus, tahini sauce, chopped tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, shredded lettuce, and pickles.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro.
