Chilean Ceviche Recipe for 4 People

Ingredients:

  • 500g fresh white fish fillets (such as sea bass or sole), cut into small cubes
  • 4-5 limes, juiced
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1-2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 bell pepper (red or yellow), diced
  • 1 jalapeño or serrano chili, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Corn nuts or roasted corn for garnish (optional)
  • Avocado slices for serving
  • Lettuce leaves for serving
  • Corn tortilla chips or crackers for serving

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Fish:
    • In a large bowl, place the fish cubes and cover them with lime juice. Make sure the fish is fully submerged. Let it marinate in the lime juice for about 30 minutes to 1 hour, or until the fish turns opaque.
  2. Prepare the Vegetables:
    • While the fish is marinating, prepare the vegetables by slicing the red onion, dicing the tomatoes, and bell pepper, and slicing the chili (if using). Chop the fresh cilantro.
  3. Combine Ingredients:
    • Once the fish is marinated, drain off excess lime juice.
    • Add the sliced red onion, diced tomatoes, diced bell pepper, sliced chili (if using), and chopped cilantro to the bowl with the fish.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    • Drizzle with olive oil and gently toss to combine all ingredients.
  4. Chill and Serve:
    • Cover the ceviche and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
    • Before serving, taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
    • Serve the Chilean ceviche cold, garnished with corn nuts or roasted corn (if desired), avocado slices, and lettuce leaves on the side.
    • Serve with corn tortilla chips or crackers for scooping.

Optional:

  • You can add a splash of hot sauce or a pinch of chili powder for extra heat.
  • Adjust the amount of chili according to your spice preference.
