Australian Chiko Rolls Recipe for 4 People
Ingredients:
- 400g (14 oz) lean ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 carrots, grated
- 1/2 cup cabbage, finely shredded
- 1/2 cup green beans, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup frozen peas
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato sauce (ketchup)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 8 sheets spring roll pastry
- Vegetable oil, for deep frying
- Tomato sauce (ketchup), for serving
Instructions:
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned.
- Add chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Stir in grated carrots, shredded cabbage, sliced green beans, and frozen peas.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for a few minutes until vegetables are tender. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Roll the Chiko Rolls:
- Lay out a sheet of spring roll pastry on a clean surface.
- Spoon some of the filling onto one end of the pastry sheet.
- Fold the sides over the filling and roll up tightly to enclose the filling.
- Seal the edge with a little water to secure the roll.
- Repeat with the remaining pastry sheets and filling.
- Fry the Chiko Rolls:
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 180°C (350°F).
- Carefully lower the chiko rolls into the hot oil in batches.
- Fry for 5-6 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve:
- Serve the hot chiko rolls with tomato sauce (ketchup) on the side for dipping.

- You can customize the filling by adding other vegetables like corn, bell peppers, or mushrooms.
- For a healthier option, you can bake the chiko rolls in the oven instead of frying them.
