Colombian Ceviche Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500g white fish fillets (tilapia, sea bass, or snapper), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup lime juice
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cucumber, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1 jalapeño or chili pepper, finely chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Plantain chips or saltine crackers, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Fish:
    • In a large bowl, combine the fish pieces with lime juice. Make sure all the fish is submerged in the juice. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or until the fish turns opaque.
  2. Prepare the Vegetables:
    • In another bowl, combine the sliced red onion, diced tomatoes, cucumber, bell pepper, cilantro, green onions, and chopped jalapeño or chili pepper (if using). Mix well.
  3. Combine and Season:
    • Drain the marinated fish and add it to the bowl of mixed vegetables.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Gently toss to combine all ingredients evenly.
  4. Chill and Serve:
    • Cover the ceviche bowl and refrigerate for another 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
    • Serve the Colombian ceviche chilled with plantain chips or saltine crackers on the side.

Tips:

  • Adjust the amount of lime juice and marinating time according to your taste preference for the level of acidity.
  • Feel free to customize your ceviche by adding ingredients like avocado, mango, or coconut milk for variation.

Enjoy this refreshing Colombian ceviche with friends and family!

(Note: Ceviche is typically served as an appetizer or light meal, so adjust the portion size accordingly for your number of guests.)
