New Zealand Green-Lipped Mussel Recipe for 4 People

Ingredients:

  • 2 kg (4.4 lbs) fresh New Zealand green-lipped mussels
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Crusty bread, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Clean and Prepare Mussels:
    • Scrub the mussels under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
    • Remove any beards (fibrous strands) from the mussels.
  2. Cook Mussels:
    • In a large pot or skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
    • Pour in the white wine and lemon juice, then bring to a simmer.
  3. Steam Mussels:
    • Add the cleaned mussels to the pot.
    • Cover and steam for 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels have opened up.
  4. Season and Garnish:
    • Season the mussels with salt and pepper to taste.
    • Sprinkle chopped parsley over the mussels for garnish.
  5. Serve:
    • Divide the mussels among serving bowls.
    • Serve immediately with crusty bread to soak up the delicious broth.
