Chilean Humitas Recipe for 4 People
Ingredients:
- 8 ears of fresh corn
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, finely chopped (optional)
- 4 pieces of parchment paper or corn husks for wrapping
Instructions:
- Prepare the Corn:
- Husk the corn and remove the silk.
- Grate or blend the corn kernels in a food processor until smooth. Alternatively, you can use a grater to finely grate the corn kernels.
- Mix the Ingredients:
- In a large bowl, combine the grated corn, softened butter, milk, salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, and chopped basil leaves (if using). Mix well until everything is thoroughly combined.
- Assemble the Humitas:
- Lay out the pieces of parchment paper or corn husks.
- Place a portion of the corn mixture onto each piece of paper or husk and wrap tightly, forming a rectangular package.
- Cook the Humitas:
- Steam the humitas in a large pot or steamer basket for about 45-60 minutes, or until firm.
- Serve:
- Unwrap the humitas and serve hot.
Optional:
- Serve with aji sauce or salsa on the side for added flavor.
